Ethnicity Background Stereotypes

From our research we have concluded that chick-flicks includes American stereotype of blue-eyed, blonde, attractive girls and the heart throb of a 'soccer' or 'basketball player', a 'jock' type. However in our film opening we cast all asian characters. This decision was made in order to challenge the stereotype from americanised white stereotypes to reflect the diversity of london. When we evaluated how this would work with our film opening and if we would be able to reach the same target audience we found that many film makers are making decisions to subvert ethnic stereotypes.

For example, High School Music challenges the stereotype of having a leading innocent blonde instead they use actress Vanessa Hudgens a brunette, 'hispanic' look to play the innocent leading character of 'Gabriella Montez'.

High School Musical also challenges the stereotype of the blonde innocent girl by using the blonde character as the enemy. The actress Ashley Tisdale is used to represent 'Sharpay Evans'.

The program how to be indie portrays asian, indian characters in a stereotypical way of parents interfering in their lives, also showing parents as traditional. This can be a patronising to certain audiences and we wanted to show in our film opening a non- stereotypical view of asian girls showing they are young and free.

Problems with the soundtrack

Originally we wanted to use the instrumental of Kesha - Tick tock, but this was not possible due to copyright infringement. So we made our own version using garage band but it does not sound the same as Kesha's. We identified that music is crucial in film openings, and if we do not get the music spot on, it will ruin our film opening.
This is the song that we chose out from Jamendo.

We all agreed on this because it has a bit of an edge of punk/ pop/ rock like it does in Mean Girls. However, when the lyrics start coming in it sounds like country/ folk music so we are going to have to change it again by finding something that fits into our genre.

Problems with sound

Everything before ''so tell me how i look" is moderate however, dialogue after this is unclear therefore we will alter this and fade it out.

At the time of recording this non diagetic sounds, we thought it was a good idea. However, we realise now that after we put things together, its not that effective so we will remove this.

Problems with transition and speed

Firstly we need a transition from the boy walking, to the girls eyes. Also, the shot of the eyes are too slow which is not necessary.

The problem here is that when the girls turn around to have a look at the boy, it looks unnatural.

Problems with cuts

The single shots of second two girls are too short compared to the first one, we are going to either extend the clip of repeat the imagine to introduce them better. The shots are also too quick.

Problems with a scene

We were going to make the title appear on the billboard but this was not possible, so we do not know how valuable this shot is. Therefore we may remove it.
